Sometimes in my family I think it isn't really worth celebrating my birthday or Mothers Day thank to my husband. It is usually more work for me then any other day as I am trying to remain enthusiastic for two little children that want to make it a nice day for me but have a husband that is just stressed out by the whole thing. (Let me add, he is normally fantastic, but when there is any expectations placed on him, he sort of stresses out).
It is not a great day in our family today, especially for my husband, as it is the one year anniversary of the death of his mum. So I am letting this pass THIS time, the problem is he does this every Christmas, birthday, mothers day.
My husband always leaves getting me a pressy until the last minute and then gets grumpy with me because he "has" to go out and get the present. Every year I tell him I would rather him be happy and have no present (knowing full well that I would be the grumpy on if he didn't make some sort of an effort) then have to put up with his bad mood because he has to go to the shops - which he hates.
So it happened again today but this time he took it to a new level. I really want Jamie Oliver's 30 Minute Meals cookbook. He couldn't get it - sold out. So he came home after shopping, told me the long story about how a young woman was holding the last copy and ended up buying it. That is fine, I didn't expect him to wrestle her to the ground for it. However he went on to then tell me what he DID get for me. Thanks for the surprise.
My daughter has told me everything that she has made me as well.
Thank goodness for my son who won't utter a word. I pick him up from Kindy and ask him about his day and his response is "I can't tell you".

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mothers Day...This year I participated in the Mother's Day Classic (Melbourne CBD) for the first time. Our group was made up of 8 women and two teenage daughters who were walking in memory of the women we have lost over the years to not only breast cancer, but all types of cancer. Its a really well run event, great atmosphere and a very worthwhile cause. Next year I am purchasing myself a MDC t-shirt to really get into the 'PINK theme'.
I then came home to two little boys who were waiting excitedly to give me a card and present. In my last blog I spoke about my eldest shopping for me at the school market. My gift was awesome - a pink pen with little diamantes on it and a gorgeous mug - because I LOVE drinking tea. He said to me 'I saw a plant but thought not to get that because your plants are no good! ha (He has taken note of the plant I bought to go in the pot he decorated at kinder last year - its looking a little sad).
I hope you had a good day and managed to sit back and relax and enjoy
time with family.

Made or rather bought - with LOVE!
Mother's Day is only a few days away. I live interstate from my Mum, so when Mother's Day comes around, I always wish that I could simply have a cup of tea with my Mum.. It would be so good to sit, laugh and talk face to face.
Since having children of my own, I have a new found love of this special day.
My eldest son, Zac is in Prep. During the week they had a Mother's Day market at school. He was so excited to be choosing something for me all on his own.
On the day that he purchased my gift, he made me stay away from his school bag and away from his room while he hid the present. (He has since made me promise not to look under his bed. ha - too funny)!
I don't think I have ever been more curious or more excited about a gift in my life. It really is true that the money factor in a gift is not what counts. Its the love and thought that matters.
My husband said that when Zac told him what he had bought and the reason why he chose it, he was fighting back tears - as the thought behind it is simply gorgeous.
So, I am counting my sleeps until I sit and listen to Zac's story and gratefully receive my gift of love. xx

Mother's Day
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY
I was lucky (?) enough to have breaky in bed this morning thanks to a great husband who made pancakes, and my 4 and 2 year old who presented me with my breakfast. I received three pancakes (one of which the kids promptly devoured) with butter and golden syrup. Yes, golden syrup, bedsheets and two small children - a recipe for disaster. But we made it through without an spillage. 10 years ago when my husband and I were without children, syrup in bed would have bought up very different images, but these days - it is just fear.
Anyway, it was lovely and my children were very excited about making me feel extra special on my big day, and that was the best present of all. Seeing their little faces with big smiles as they bought in the pancakes brought a tear to my eye. My present (a facial) is on hold until next weekend as most of the Beautician's in my area are closed on a Sunday, so I will have a double helping of Mother's Day.
Off to have Sushi (yum) for lunch!! Hope all the mums out there have a really wonderful day.
