Do you buy clothing on line?


I recently watched a news report on buying clothing on line and whilst the perfect size 6 woman found it easy and convenient on line, a lot of people not blessed with those petite genes found buying clothing on line frustrating.  It seems that many people find it hard to buy for their body shape and if they do venture to buy something online, many times it doesn't fit properly.


Buying on line can be a really exciting.  There is the rush of buying something on line because it is a risk.  It may look fantastic.  It may not.  So what is the solution?  


There are a few rules of thumb you can follow:


- Don't buy anything that is overly fitted, unless you are specifically buying t-shirts or Lycra based items.


- Always look at the websites size chart and take the time to take your measurements and compare them to the websites size chart.


- If length is an issue again always measure on yourself to see where the item will sit on your body.  If the website does not display the length, ask.  The majority of web store owners are more then happy to answer any questions you may have.




At Shimi we have taken these issue into consideration and now are focusing on only selling apparel that is a One Size fits all.  One Size is not really "one size" but will cover size ranges from about size 8 - size 14.  The clothing is made specially to fall well on all size types within this range.  Obviously the clothing is not fitted, but loose fitting and comfortable.

Colour Blocking

Colour Blocking.  Basically it means bright bright colours "blocked" together.  And it is on the rise in the fashion world.  Do I like it?  Personally not at all.  I love colour but I am a bit conservative when it comes to combining bright colours together.  I think bright colours combine beautifully with pale or subdued colours, like fuchsia with ink, or yellow with dark purple, turquoise with white, etc.

However as mentioned, the fashion world has spoken and colour blocking is in. Think pink with orange, or green black and pink.  Generally those who like this trend are rocking tight dresses with panels of colour.  It is very reminiscent of the early 90's, a fashion era I prefer to leave right back in the 90s.

If you are going to give this trend a go, team the outfit with black accessories and there is such a thing as too much colour.  Black shoes and a black bag and limited jewellery accessories will push the focus on the clothing, which when you are colour blocking is where you want the focus to be.

Alternatively if you are a little scared of too much colour like myself, keep the clothing a bit more conservative and go with some bright sunglasses, or bright block colour shoes.  You can find some amazing thick bangles in jewel colours that will take a conservative black outfit and make it ping.

French Connection Casual Chic

I unfortunately don't get out much at night and due to that I find it hard to spend to much money on evening wear because I know it is such a long time between drinks so to speak.  However I am not opposed to spending money on my casual clothes.  I am a clothes horse, I love fashion, and I am not one to wear the same outfit for years on end.  Clothing that suits me makes me feel happy when I put it on.  It may sound shallow, but I will own that.  It is just like putting on a spray of perfume in the morning, it is just one little thing to lift the spirits, and if that is going to enhance your day - why not?  We have one life to live people, let's do all we can to make it fun!

However that is not to say I spend A LOT on my casual clothes.  I have a range with everything from the very discount department stores up to well known designer brands.  I love French Connection for their casual range.  Whilst a little more expensive then the average (but not by much) they last really well and have a very timeless feel.  But they are a little unique and that is what I want for my day to day clothes - still wearable, still comfortable, but I am not going to pass 15 people in the street wearing the same thing.

I love the Dandy Voile top by French Connection for just this reason.  This little top would go with jeans, shorts or a cute skirt, and the sleeves make it a bit of something special.  A great white shirt is hard to pass up, but the sleeve ruffle really give it a feminine edge.  Another favourite is the Candy Stripe Ruffle sleeve dress by French Connection.  Hmmm, when I'm not pregnant.........  Until then I have to be content with my limited maternity wardrobe.  Oh well - 13 weeks to go.
